Netscape Cleans up with Ad-Free Personalised Homepage
March 6th, 2007 by pamela
As part of its continued efforts to become a user organised news portal Netscape has rolled out a personalised start page at My.Netscape.

The new site hosts over 100 modules allowing users to easily add weather reports, news, horoscopes and more which users can use to create custom RSS feeds, as well as giving users the chance to customise the look and feel of their chosen modules.
According to the Netscape blog; “My.Netscape will retain its identity as a personalized homepage, with a minimum of ad clutter. The initial release will in fact have no ads at all! Our programming staff has worked hard to create a framework that allows for scalability and UI elegance.”
The great thing about this new interface is the lack of advertising. Yes, Netscape with no advertising. It’s a blessing, but how likely is it that Netscape can compete with field leaders such as Yahoo! having hit users much earlier than Netscape’s offering? And what is Netscape going to be able to offer users that will really excite them?
