New research has found that ABC1 women now spend less time watching TV and reading in favour of spending time online, according to new research from IPC Southbank.
The publisher of some of the UK’s biggest women’s titles, including Marie Claire, In Style and Ideal Homes, IPC Southbank surveyed over 4000 women on their leisure habits, 70% of whom said that they couldn’t live without the internet.
75% said that they spent more time online this year than last, spending less time reading, going to the cinema and watching TV as a result. Conversely the respondents claimed that this did not affect their magazine reading.
86% shopped online, with 68% researching products online before buying offline. The products researched included make-up and skincare products, while it was books, CDs, holidays and electrical goods which were bought online. Travel, fashion, health, property and beauty were the top search topics.
According to Brand Republic Jackie Newcombe, MD of IPC Southbank, said: “The popularity of the internet — in particular with premium women — is a trend no-one in the media and marketing industry can afford to ignore.”
