Blended to perfection

Will it Blend? has topped the ‘Viral Campaign of the Year’ category at the .net 2007 awards. The campaign was launched just over a year ago and has become one of the internet’s most successful viral ads. “Because we’re a smaller company, we were able to put out something edgy and fun,” explained George Wright, from blender manufacturer Blendtec. He said that sales had gone up 500 per cent and he was inspired to create the campaign having watched his boss’ product testing method. “To put out a viral campaign was my idea. I’d begun working for the company just over a year ago and saw that the CEO, Tom Dickson, tested blenders by trying to destroy them.” Runners-up in the category were the Simpsons movie, Get the Glass, Cadbury and the X Factor. Social network, Google Earth won the best innovation of the year, Facebook was voted the best socially powered site and Apple was awarded the prize for best site re-design
