Internet Use Grows by 10% Worldwide

The research from comScore Networks puts the worldwide web audience at 747 million people (aged 15 or over) using the internet in January 2007, a 10% increase on January 2006.
Bob Ivins, managing director of comScore Europe said: “The importance of the worldwide Internet population continues to grow.”
“Internet users outside the U.S. now account for 80 percent of the world’s online population, with rapidly developing countries experiencing double-digit growth rates year-over-year.”
According to the report China now has the second largest internet using population in the world, coming second only the United States. Chinese internet users now number 86.8 million, an increase of 20% from 2006. The United states saw an increase of only 2% during this period, although with 153.4 million users the US remains the country with the greatest penetration level.
comScore also reported on the top worldwide internet properties for January, which saw Microsoft, Google and Yahoo! occupy the top three slots respectively, a situation sees little movement.
