Meta Data – What’s their Worth?

Meta data is one of the least understood parts of the optimisation process, and for years there have been debates on the level of their importance, with ebbs and flows ensuring that few people are ever entirely clear as to just how important they really are.
E-consultancy has posted an article examining the importance of meta tags as 2007 progresses, and with new tags being supported by Yahoo! and Google, it would seem that their importance is rising once more.
But is this the full story, and what does the future hold as search progresses?
