Only 5% of Companies Worldwide Blog

March 28th, 2007 by pamela

A new report from Lewis PR suggests that only 5% of companies worldwide have a blog. In fact, the survey came back with such low adoption rates that a larger scale research project was scrapped.

Focusing on ‘corporate blogs’, i.e. blogs that are permanent and opinion-driven, the survey also found that

* Only the US is seeing some uptake of corporate blogging across multiple industries;

* In other countries, corporate blogging largely remains restricted to marketing, communication and new media agencies;

* Key barriers for corporate blogging in Europe include uncertainty about benefits and best practices, as well as a traditional caution when adopting new technologies;

* Remarkably enough, every country except the US seems to think it’s lagging behind the rest of the world in regards to corporate blogging;

* Which means that in reality, nobody is lagging behind: corporate blogging is just not happening yet.

In ambergreen we know (myself especially!) how much time, skill and knowledge (ahem) goes into writing a good, useful blog, but it isn’t easy for every company to do, despite the clear benefits. The report looks at the reasons for and against, and is definitely worth a read if you are considering setting up a corporate blog.

    I find I have couple of issues with convince clients to run a business blog. One the term “blog” turns them off or throws them I tend to call it an online Journal. They don’t understand the principle of it all and most of them think they can buy off the shelf solution. You can advise them, provide the tools etc but only they can blog about there business. Well done one the MyTravel contract.
