Web 2.0 and modern technology is pushing workers to new limits where they accept data at a faster pace, BT’s head of employment has said. Speaking at the Work Wise UK summit last week, Caroline Waters explained Web 1.0 was about pushing information out. However, workers now exist in a 2.0 world, she observed, where they are “using it as a social tool to engage”. “The workforces that we create have to understand how to assimilate stuff at an incredible rate, because it is coming at us faster and faster,” she noted. The global job market has now opened up completely she added and explained that broadband technology had allowed other countries to ignore infrastructure and become a “technology-led population that has knowledge”. Despite the dominance of Google in the UK and US, foreign markets have developed their own search companies – China’s Baidu for example is now the third largest search property in the world.
