Yahoo! Fights Click Fraud with New Appointment

Yahoo! is stepping up its fight against click fraud as it announces that between 12 and 15% of clicks coming through Yahoo! PPC ads are identified as invalid and are removed from advertiser’s bills.

Yahoo’s commitment to doing as much to prevent fraudulent paid search clicks was highlighted by announcing that they have appointed a former company lawyer as Vice–President of Marketplace Quality Position

Reggie Davis will be engaged in improving reliability and eliminating the possibility of fraud related legal action. According to Search Engine Watch, Davis’s team;

“Will focus on click fraud, traffic quality, network placement and other marketplace quality issues, including working closely with advertisers and publishers on quality-related matters.”

The click fraud issues never seems to go away, and are obviously difficult to eradicate. All that the search engines can do is put as much effort into finding erroneous clicks as possible.

Google’s business product manager for trust and safety Shuman Ghosemajumder recently said that the quantity of invalid clicks detect as a result of reactive investigations is a “negligible proportion” of the total number of invalid clicks – 0.2%, which suggestes that Yahoo! is doing a better job of uncovering fraud.
